The Next Economy Third Batch Kick off Session

The Next Economy Second Entrepreneurship Crazy Hours Fundraising Competition

On 19th March 2018, Iftin Foundation organized event known as crazy hour crowdfunding and best idea voting competition among the Next Economy 2nd batch entrepreneurs which used to award $500 the campaigner who collects the highest amount of money during the first hour and the one his/her idea find the most votes . On 9:00am the campaigns got live in front of campaigners at the Next Economy website. 14 campaigners attended the competition but eleven campaigners succeed to make crowdfunding and they made 5,580 USD as total crowdfunding within the first hour competition.


Finally Mr. Ali Abdullahi Ahmed with idea of ALI-BABA Video Production and Advertising became the one who made greatest amount of money within first hour while the second was Shafi’e Abdi Osman, the Documents and Resume Writing Consultancy and there were other nine people presented amounts of money. Mr. Ali Abdullahi Ahmed became crazy hour crowdfunding winner and awarded Card written $500 extra of matching.


Then we have processed the best awesome idea holder through secret voting including campaigners as well as organized team. We have engaged two rounds of voting and the last round of voting the Midwifery Birth Center owned by Hafsa Omar Abdi got maximum votes while the second idea was Sea Food Delivery owned by Fahim Abdullahi Jim’ale.
Midwifery Birth Center recognized best idea according to the campaigner’s ideas and voting result and Ms. Hafsa Omar Abdi was awarded card written $500 extra of matching fund.

The Next Economy Second Batch Bootcamp Event

6th March 2018 IFTIN FOUNDATION has organized boot-camp event that invited with external successful business entrepreneurs which supposed to meet and interact with Next Economy young entrepreneurs in order to listen guests’ advises and get chance to ask questions with external business scholars. This event was the last day of gathering.

The Next Economy Validation day of Second Batch

Validation Meeting Day

Saturday, 09 December: Validation Day for the 2nd Batch of Life Skills Training of Next Economy was held in Mogadishu.

Attended by around 100 trainees, the objective of the meeting was to divide the trainees into two groups: a group who will undertake entrepreneurship skills training and another group who will seek internship opportunities.

The event was organized by Iftin Foundation together with its partners in the Next Economy project.

The Next Economy Second Batch kick off event

18th September 2017 was the day in which the 2nd Batch of Next Economy Training was officially launched by IFTIN FOUNDATION. The launching occasion were participated hundred newly  enrolled participants and different stakeholder of the program including government representatives, business groups, civil society leaders, international and local organisations based in Mogadishu. Speakers on the session discussed the importance TNE program and how its fit for Somali young graduates while they encouraged a newly participants to keep the benefits of the program in order to realize proud spectrum among the Somali elite people for national aspirations.

First Bootcamp event of The Next Economy Program

20 July 2017 was the day that IFTIN FOUNDATION organized first entrepreneurship group BOOTCAMP event. The event attended and participated first batch entrepreneurship participants and external successful business scholars, while the objective of the event was to inspire new business initiative holders to relevant hints from the opportunities in the market in order to create their own business.

Accessibility of key Public Space Assessment, September 2019

In line with the general purpose of civic engagement program of political and social life of people with disabilities, Iftin Foundation conducted five-days field assessment (10th – 14th September) on key public spaces/places those provide service facilities in Mogadishu those made it possible an access for people with physical disabilities, especially where those with physical disabilities are able to access their services without the need for further assistance and demand.

This assessment was data carried out from the field in details and findings obtained during the assessment period are as shown below tables.

 

We have managed to reach 13 public service locations including Universities, Police stations, District Commissions, Banks, Business Malls, Hotels, Telecommunication companies and Hospitals.

The assessment found, that 4 public places provide service facilities suited their places an accessibility for the people with disabilities, one place was normally accessible without understanding for PWDs while other 8 out of 13 were inaccessible their service the people with physical disabilities.

Conclusions

Findings were discovered shows that 4 spaces out of the 13 selected places which equivalent 30.8% have accessible design for people with disabilities, and 1 place is naturally accessible without any deliberate design for serving of people with disabilities while other 8 places which equivalent 61.5% have no accessible service for People living with disabilities.

84.6% respondents from key public spaces visited responded that there is need to have access of people with disabilities for the facilities of public places by marked strongly agree and 15.4% respondents selected agreed in the assessment form provided while there is no anyone refused.

Recommendation

Based on the assessment findings shows that most key public spaces serving with community including people with disabilities have no access facilities for PWDs. Grant assumed similar results and hence proposed follow on activities to address these gaps in facilitating access to persons with physical disabilities to public spaces to encourage their public and political participation.  As such, IFTIN will support the following interventions and activities to attempt at responding to these challenges. IFTIN will consider how key public places owners/managers to be aware for facilities accessible for physical disable people.

 

IFTIN will consider the following interventions in the future;

  1. To engage high level awareness programs for the public in order to bring the attention of the people that people with disabilities are active and great number of the community.
  2. Spaces and buildings’ plans should be included that people with disabilities particularly those physically disable to have access with the facilities provides by the places.
  3. To have laws treat with the disable people by relevant bodies to secure the rights of the people with disabilities in Somalia in both accessibility and participation of politics and the public life.
  4. Based on the assessment, most of the respondent said they didn’t received any complaint from people with disabilities about inaccessibility of their facilities where accessibility of their spaces is very low, thus people with physical disabilities required to double their efforts and share their service barriers with public space owners/managers.
  5. Construction companies, owners and the local government are required to consider that this very serious business to keep the value of people with disabilities.
